Painting the town red - Wednesday 6th May
Well, glad to say that Big Hand have collectively survived another weekend of Edinburgh may day madness - living to tell the tale without falling down any mountains, having any dramatic bike accidents, removing fairly large chunks of memory, damaging a nice suit, breaking a guitar, losing the ability to function on a day to day level, or ending up otherwise in Hospital. Still, it was good fun. Maybe this is what it means to 'grow up'.
One of the band's 'founding fathers' came of age too over the weekend, and to celebrate organised a very succesful game of 'city break'. For the uninitiated, this is basically Risk on a city-wide scale, involving competing for territory in the form of pubs. Luckily our unit was dispatched to the Oak, where the talks involved downing half pints as quick as possible, while being serenaded folk-style. I proved to be surprisingly good (given the glacial speed at which I usually drink my pints), and this in no small part led to our overwhelming success.
Despite having wrecked mind, body and spirit, we gathered our strength for the gig we'd all been waiting for for all these years....NOFX. Was suitably amazing and anarchic (and angry, in the case of our manager, who spend much of the time engaged in vertical warfare with the dumb punk-girl pouring beer on us from the safety of the balcony - shame on her! - still, he gave good few soakings back), boucning round to Reeko like we were 15 again. Good times...
