The Flood - Monday 10th November

Having moved down south from Edinburgh to London last month, a rode out the wierdness of this on a wave of optimism that at the very least I would be warm, somewhat less windswept and a good deal less wet. I have seen the error of my ways. I have spent the last 3 days being ed that this is of course Britain, and having used up the national quota of 10 days sunshine a year, we are not fullly immersed in Novermber gloom (as I write this, at midday, a car is driving past with headlights on), and that unless I go about a thousand miles south, this situation will not improve. Not only that, yesterday I spent 2 hours getting home from Richmond on the bus (Its 3 miles! 2 hours gets me halfway to Edinburgh!). However, I am consoling myself with nice summer memories, and the thought that, barring any serious mishap, the next one will soon be nearing. That said, it does look like The Flood is starting outside, and the Noah within is already sizing up planks of wood in the shed in anticipation of the deluge. Still, on the bright side, Obama won, and while I'm sure I'll be brought down from my current adulation and find out he can't actually walk on water, at the very least he won't be an illiterate posturing waterboarding redneck, and the world won't end quite so soon as it otherwise would have done.

Its nice to feel hopeful about the state of the world for a change.
